Objective Our Mission Financing/ Assets Our origins |
ObjectiveThusanang's intend is to support Namibian Students, independently from their sex, ethnic origin or confession. By supporting education we want to encourage young Namibians to take over leading responsibilities in their personal, political or social environment. Our MissionThusanang supports, year by year, between 20 and 30 students of the universities of Namibia, mainly in their first years - as for the start at university there are only few governmental bursary programmes. Before being supported by Thusanang, the students need to go through an extensive application procedure - if accepted they will be supported as to their needs. Through contract all students are obliged to pay back their (interest-free) loans, as soon as they have finished their studies and are having income.Financing/ AssetsThe "Pater Stens Stiftung Thusanang" in Germany owns a capital of more than 300 000 Euro. According to its articles, the capital is invested following ethical rules (socially and environmentally compliant).
Our origins
It all started in 1992 when Father Heinz Theo Stens, working in the mission of the Roman Catholic Church in Namibia, travelled through the country, together with this friend and former classmate Hendrik Brebaum and his wife Ulla. When they asked how they could help the people, they often got the answer that young people need a better perspective for their life and that a better education is key to grant a peaceful and democratic future of the country. |
