Who we are:

Our aim is to qualify young Namibians to take leading responsibilities in professional, political and social life. We want to help that there are new leading personalities coming from Namibia who are able to grant peace and democracy in their home-country.


Thusanang means "Help each other"

Thusanang is a Tswana word, the English meaning is: "Help each other" - this is the Motto of our foundation and implies that we provide an interest-free loan, that needs to be paid back after the students have ended their studies and are earning money.


Father Heinz Theo Stens OMI

The funds are coming from the catholic foundation "Pater Stens Stiftung Thusanang" in Germany. Father Heinz Theo Stens OMI (died in 2005), worked from 1994 to 1997 in the mission of the Roman Catholic Church in Namibia and had started at that time to support students thanks to donations he received from Germany. In 2002, an official foundation "Thusanang" was created. In 2005, when Father Stens died, his name was added to the name of the foundation.

What can you expect from Thusanang?

Thusanang provides support for Tuition fees, Meals, Books, Accomodation and Transport. The amount that is to be provided will be individually decided. Once you are in the programme, Thusanang will most probably continue to support you, supposing you pass your exams. Once or twice per year we organize a meeting of all Thusanang students.

Who can be supported?

Before sending us an application, please make sure you fulfill the following criteria:
• Namibian Nationality
• Studies at University of Namibia (no two years diploma) or Polytec in Namibia
• Socially engaged (i.e. you help others in your home community, parish or at your educational institution)
• Parental income is smaller than 150.000 N$ per year
• 1st year student or senior student
We do NOT support
• Foreign students
• Studies in South Africa or other countries abroad
• 2 year Diploma studies
• Master degrees or other post-graduations

What does Thusanang expect from their students?

We expect from our students to concentrate on their studies. If you do not pass a year, the support will be stopped until you have passed your exams.
When you have finished your studies and are gaining a regular salary, we require you by contract to pay back the bursary loan. You will not be obliged to do payments higher than 15% of your monthly salary.

In case you want to apply for a bursary loan scheme, please provide:
• Filled in Application form
• CV
• Copy of ID Card
• Copy of birth certificate
• Filled in Reference form
• Certified statement of parental income (or statement from nearest police station that parents have no income)
• If applicable: copy of death certificate(s) of parent(s)
• for Senior students
• Last two results from UNAM or POLYTECHNIC as certified copies
• Grade 12 certificate
• for Grade 12 Learners and Grade 12 certificate holders
• Provisional admission letter from UNAM or Polytechnic of Namibia
• Grade 12 certificate (if applicable)
• Last two results from your SSS

General remarks:

• Please only provide complete applications. Incomplete applications will not be considered!
• Best send all papers by fax to 088 635 477 or as attachments per email to thusanang.info@yahoo.com. If you are asked for an interview you have to bring the original certified copies
• Don't send the papers by courier- it is expensive and we will not go to the courier office in Windhoek to fetch up your letter.
• Deadline for application is normally midth of January.
